Tokyo Olympics: Deepika-Praveen beat Taipei to reach quarterfinals

Tokyo: India got off to a mixed start on the second day of the Tokyo Olympics. In fact, Deepika-Praveen has won the archery and reached the quarterfinals. With this, Apurvi Chandela-Elavenil Valariwan women have been eliminated in the 10m air rifle qualification competition and have not reached the medal round. In the final eight matches, Deepika Kumari and Praveen Jadhav clashed with Chia-n Lin and Chih-Chun Tang (Chinese Taipei).

India defeated Chinese Taipei 5-3 to clinch the victory. Deepika-Praveen will now take on South Korea in the quarterfinals. Tell you that Deepika Kumari landed with Praveen Jadhav instead of her husband and veteran archer Atanu Das in the Tokyo Olympic Archery Mixed Doubles event.

The decision was taken on the basis of the performance of the qualification round last Friday. However, the archery mixed doubles event is being played for the first time in the Olympics and is being counted as India's medal hope. Though India had the option of sending the names of Das and Deepika, who won gold medals together in the Paris World Cup, the federation chose Jadhav instead of Das and so far the decision seems to be right.
