IPL 2018: Top 5 Contenders for the Orange Caps

 

We have some exciting fresh talents in IPL 2018. Cricketers like of Evin Lewis, Colin Munro, Jason Roy, and D'Arcy Short will look to score a lot of runs. Also, experienced batsmen like Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Faf du Plessis, Aaron Finch, KL Rahul, and Ajinkya Rahane can score heavily at the top.

5. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has scored 372 runs at an average of 124. Gills scored two half century and one Century in the ICC U-19 World Cup. In the IPL Auction which is held on last week of January 2018, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹1.8 crore.

4. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is a consistent run-getter for Sunrisers Hyderabad. More often than not, he plays the second fiddle to David Warner but scores a lot of runs. In 2017, Dhawan has scored 479 runs at an average of 36.84 and a strike rate of 127.39. Dhawan has scored at least 300 runs in the last 7 editions of the IPL tournament and is expected to go big this time around.  

3. Chris Lynn

Lynn took the IPL 2017 by storm but injuries curtailed his last season to just 7 games. He averaged 49.16 in 2017 at a humongous strike rate of 180.96. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a stunning $1.86 million. The Australian is BBL’s all-time leading six-hitter.

2. David Warner

Aussies opening batsmen Warner has won the Orange Cap on two previous occasions in the IPL. The 31-year-old top scored in 2015 and 2017. Also, he has scored more than 500 runs in the previous four editions of the competition. He averages 40.54 and has a strike rate of 142 in the IPL.

1. Virat Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is an obvious no.1 candidate. With 4418 runs in 141 games, he is the second highest run-getter in the competition’s history. He also holds the record for most runs in a single IPL tournament, 973 runs in 2016. He was also the Orange Cap winner in 2016.
