Billionaires in 2025: Gautam Adani has lost USD12 billion in 2025 so far, making it the second-biggest drop in wealth after Elon Musk. The decline in Adani Group stocks, which have fallen by 13% this year, has caused this major loss. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk has lost even more, that is to say 35.2 billion, bringing his net worth down to USD397.3 billion.
As of February 20, 2025, Adani’s net worth stands at USD66.8 billion. His company’s shares have taken a big hit, with Adani Enterprises falling nearly 15%, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone dropping by 11%, Adani Power losing 8.6%, and Adani Green Energy declining by 18%.
Elon Musk, who remains the world’s richest person, has seen his wealth change significantly over time. His fortune grew recently due to the rising value of his companies. Additionally, he plays a key role in the US government as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Donald Trump.
Other Indian billionaires have also faced losses. HCLTech's Shiv Nadar and Varun Beverages' Ravi Jaipuria lost USD4.5 billion and USD4.2 billion, respectively. India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, saw his wealth fall by USD2.9 billion to USD87.7 billion.
A broader stock market decline has affected many businesses, with concerns over high valuations and slower economic growth. The Indian rupee has weakened by 1.2%, and the Nifty 50 index has dropped by 3.5% this year.
