Tom Cruise starrer Top Gun Maverick did outstanding business in the worldwide box office collection from the day it was released. The Tom Cruise-starrer had got a grand premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Variety reports that Top Gun: Maverick has overtaken Titanic as the studio’s biggest film in its 110-year history. However, James Cameron’s disaster epic is still outpacing Tom Cruise’s fighter-jet adventure outside of North America with $1.5 billion at the international box office and $2.2 billion globally. Tom Cruise has only been busy working on Mission Impossible movies, the franchise that began 10 years after Top Gun turned out to be the biggest blockbuster. In the latest update, it is reported that Top Gun: Maverick has also toppled Titanic as the seventh-biggest film ever at the domestic box office. It earned $662 million in ticket sales. "Impressively, Top Gun: Maverick has sold a similar number of tickets overseas as it has domestically, with the film’s international tally standing at $690 million. Without playing in China or Russia, the blockbuster follow-up to 1986’s Top Gun has grossed $1.3 billion to date," the report read. Top Gun Maverick was originally scheduled to release in July 2019. The film follows the story of Maverick, who is forced into teaching a new generation of fighter pilots, including Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw, the son of his best friend and pilot Goose, who died in the original film. The iconic Top Gun was released in 1986.
