Palghar: A court in Maharashtra's Palghar district has sentenced a 47-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape case. Special Judge Sanjay Kumar V Khongal, who is hearing the case, also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on the culprit. At the same time, ordered that after recovering the amount of the fine, Rs 5 thousand should be given to the victim as compensation.
The court was told by Special Public Prosecutor Jayprakash Patil that in the year 2016, the security guard had raped a 7-year-old girl. The offender and the victim lived in the same area. The victim's father also worked as a security guard. In fact, on February 3, 2016, when the girl's mother went out to fetch water, the criminal took the victim to his home on some pretext and then committed the heinous incident of rape. When the girl's mother returned, she found her daughter at the offender's house.
The prosecution told the court that the girl later complained of stomach pain and narrated the incident to her mother, subsequently, a complaint was lodged with the police and the culprit was arrested. After hearing the matter, the court said that the aggrieved party has proved all the allegations against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt. Now the accused need to be convicted and punished. Thereafter, the convict was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.6,000. Along with this, the court also asked the state government to give compensation to the victim and rehabilitate her. The judge said in his order, the victim belongs to a poor family. What happened to her cannot be repaired, But then the compensation must give at least some solace. The victim and her family have suffered a lot. Therefore, the court is of the opinion that the victim should be given compensation through the District Legal Services Authority.
