Tragic Blast Mars Pakistan's 2024 Election: 4 Officers Killed Near Polling Station

A Blast struck during Pakistan's election as four policemen lost their lives in a terrorist attack in the country's northwest region, as reported by the pak media on February 8. The attack, believed to be an act of terror, targeted officers on election duty in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, which shares a border with Afghanistan. According to police reports, the attackers detonated a bomb and then opened fire on the officers' vehicle, leaving six others injured.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Kalachi police station in Dera Ismail Khan, where the officers were stationed to ensure the security of the Graha Aslam polling station, as per a report by Express Tribune.

This tragic event follows closely after twin terror attacks claimed the lives of at least 30 individuals in the volatile Balochistan province. Additionally, grenade attacks were reported in various parts of Balochistan on February 8, though fortunately, there were no casualties reported, ensuring minimal disruption to the polling process in the region, according to Saeed Ahmed Umrani, commissioner of the Makran division, as cited by Reuters.

In a separate development, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader took to social media to claim that voting had not yet commenced at a polling booth in Lahore, halfway into the designated polling time."
