Lucknow: In Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, a tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night as three infants lost their lives in a hut fire. The cause of the fire in the Dera Banjara area of Jasrana is still under investigation, as reported by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ranvijay Singh on Sunday. Shakeel, a 30-year-old man who recently acquired a house under the PM Awas scheme (still under construction), lived in a nearby hut with his wife and three children. The fire occurred around 11 pm while Shakeel and his family were asleep. Tragically, two of the infants, Anish (4) and Reshma (1), succumbed to the fire on the spot, while the third, 6-year-old Samana, later passed away in the hospital. In the midst of the blaze, Shakeel and his wife, Nemzadi, sustained critical injuries and were rushed to SN Medical College in Agra. According to locals, Shakeel initially managed to escape the hut. However, upon realizing that his family was still inside, he re-entered in a courageous attempt to save them. Sub-divisional Magistrate Adesh Singh Sengar revealed that the family had received two out of three installments under the PM Awas scheme for building a house. A report on the accident will be submitted to the state government to seek financial assistance for the grieving parents. This heartbreaking incident is reminiscent of an earlier tragedy in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar earlier this year, where a family of six lost their lives in a house fire. The blaze, believed to have originated from a short-circuit, triggered an LPG cylinder explosion, trapping the family in their hut. Despite villagers' attempts to douse the flames, Sangeeta and her children—Ankit, Laxmina, Munna, Reeta, and Geeta—could not escape. The incident, occurring in the Ramkola police station limits, left the victims charred to death, while Sangeeta's husband and in-laws, sleeping outside, survived unharmed.
