TRIPURA: JP Nadda, national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is scheduled to visit the northeast twice next week, a top party source informed. The party official said that Nadda will present the party platform for the upcoming legislative elections in Nagaland and Meghalaya. A senior party source said, "Our Party President will launch the Sankalp Patra for Nagaland on February 14 and Meghalaya on February 15." Nadda will reach Tripura to introduce his party's platform ahead of the elections that will take place the following week. The Act East programme of the Narendra Modi administration has placed a particular emphasis on the northeastern area since taking office in 2014. While the prime minister has personally visited the area more than 50 times, the creation of a safe northeast has received significant attention. According to the source, "the Indian government is dedicated to a safe and secure north-east and resolving the border issues across all the states and will continue to be the major focus that we take to the public in the future elections." The welfare of people through infrastructure, development, and women are anticipated to be the main focus areas in the manifesto for the elections on February 16 in addition to security and law and order. The BJP's agenda continues to be dominated by the developments in the Northeast. Assam twice elected the BJP, once in 2016 and again in 2021, while Manipur twice did the same in 2017 and 2022, transforming the northeast into a "saffron belt." The party is hoping that they would also be able to form the government in Tripura for a second consecutive term. The BJP, however, is running alone in Meghalaya after vowing not to forge an alliance, despite the fact that it now has one with the National People's Party (NPP). The BJP is running in 20 out of 60 seats in Nagaland in an alliance with Nephew Rio's Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). The last BJP manifesto for Tripura included promises such as job creation, AIIMS like facilities in hospitals, pay matrix of the 7th Pay Commission, hiking monthly social pension to Rs 2,000, providing houses to 3.8 lakh families, and drinking water to 53% households, among others.
