How Trump Criticized the Presidential Pardon for Hunter Biden as a 'Miscarriage of Justice'

Former US President Donald Trump has criticized outgoing President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, calling it a "miscarriage of justice." Hunter Biden had been convicted on charges related to gun crimes and tax violations.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump questioned whether the pardon extended to those imprisoned for their roles in the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riots, referring to them as "J-6 hostages." He and his supporters claim these individuals acted peacefully and patriotically.

"Does the pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of justice!" Trump said.

Speculation has grown over whether Trump, if elected President again, would issue pardons for individuals involved in the Capitol Hill events.

On Sunday, President Biden officially pardoned Hunter Biden, ensuring he would not face sentencing or prison time for the charges against him. In a statement, Biden addressed the pardon, emphasizing that his son's legal troubles stemmed from addiction-related issues and were handled differently than similar cases.

"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word even as I watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted," Biden said.

The President argued that felony charges in such cases are uncommon, particularly without aggravating factors like involvement in other crimes or acting as a straw purchaser of firearms. He highlighted that individuals with tax issues due to addiction often resolve their cases without criminal charges.

Biden also accused political opponents in Congress of pushing for the charges against Hunter Biden as part of a broader attack on him and his presidency. He added that a plea deal, previously negotiated with the Department of Justice, fell apart under political pressure.

"The charges came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election. A carefully negotiated plea deal unraveled in court, with political opponents taking credit for pressuring the process," Biden said.

The President described the charges as politically motivated, asserting that Hunter Biden was targeted due to his connection to him. Biden concluded by expressing faith in the justice system but maintained that political interference had led to a "miscarriage of justice."
