WASHINGTON D C: Former US President Donald Trump has ordered the firing of all remaining US attorneys appointed during Joe Biden's presidency. He claimed that the Justice Department had become highly politicized and needed immediate reform.
On posting on social media X, formerly Twitter, Donald Trump noted, - More than the last 4 years, the Justice Department of United states has been politicised like never before. That is why I have directed the termination of all the US attorneys of Biden-era . We must clean the White House and restore trust in our justice system.
The White House sent termination letters Last week to several State attorneys who were appointed by former President Joe Biden.
On Monday, some of these attorneys announced they were stepping down, while others had already left their jobs the week before.
These U.S. attorneys are the top federal law enforcement officials in their regions. Their dismissal is the latest shake-up at the Justice Department since Trump took office last month.
Usually, career officials at the Justice Department keep their positions even when a new president takes over. However, in cities like Washington and New York, many have either quit or been removed since Trump became president.
Critics of Trump are worried about the recent changes at the Department of Justice (DOJ). They are especially concerned about Attorney General Pam Bondi’s decision to review a federal case against Trump. This is part of a larger effort to reform the Justice Department, which Trump has often said is unfair to conservatives.
His decision comes just days after the White House sent termination letters to several attorneys appointed by Biden. Many of them had already announced their resignations following the change in administration.
Although it is common for US attorneys to step down when a new president takes office, experts say that normally, resignations are requested rather than forced through direct terminations. Since Trump's return to office, many Justice Department officials, particularly in cities like Washington and New York, have either resigned or been removed.
Trump has repeatedly vowed to end what he calls the Justice Department's "weaponization," arguing that it was used against him during his time out of power.
