U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering Kevin Warsh for the role of Treasury Secretary, with the possibility of later appointing him as the Federal Reserve Chairman. Discussions took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, according to sources familiar with the situation. Warsh, who has a background as a former investment banker and Federal Reserve Board member, met with Trump to explore this potential arrangement. Additionally, Trump is weighing the idea of bringing in Scott Bessent, a seasoned hedge fund investor and former Yale University lecturer, to head the White House National Economic Council. This role could serve as a precursor to a future nomination for Bessent to succeed Warsh at the Treasury. Other candidates being considered for the Treasury Secretary position include Marc Rowan, co-founder of Apollo Global Management, U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty from Tennessee, and Robert Lighthizer, who previously served as U.S. Trade Representative throughout Trump’s earlier term. The search for a top position in the new Trump administration remains ongoing, with no official announcement yet made. According to sources, the team responsible for selecting a candidate has expanded its search to consider a wider range of options. Initially, billionaire investor John Paulson was seen as a leading contender for the role. However, he withdrew from consideration last week, citing "complex financial obligations." With Paulson out of the running, investor Scott Bessent emerged as a frontrunner, while Howard Lutnick, a notable banker, also became a strong contender. Speculation continues to swirl around several other possible candidates as the Trump administration broadens its selection process to find the ideal fit.
