Trump's Disinformation Campaign Escalates Ahead of Possible 2024 Run

Former President Donald Trump is once again spreading disinformation, accusing Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden’s administration of actions he himself was once criticized for. Trump recently claimed, without evidence, that the White House is diverting disaster relief funds to unrelated migrant programs. However, while in office, Trump repurposed FEMA funds for his immigration policies.

At a recent rally in Wisconsin, Trump falsely alleged that Harris was sending billions overseas while domestic disaster victims received only $750 each. This false claim contradicts the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) explanation that people can apply for further assistance beyond the initial $750 for critical needs.

Trump often uses his legal troubles to frame himself as a victim of Democratic interference, despite his own attempt to overturn the 2020 election. During his presidency, he called for the arrest of political opponents and warned that Biden should not be allowed to run for office.

At his rally in Wisconsin, Trump again warned that if he loses the upcoming election, "you’ll never have an election again," a baseless claim aimed at stirring fear among voters. He also made unfounded accusations against Harris, accusing her of dishonesty and even suggesting that the disaster relief issue was politically motivated against Republican areas.

As Trump ramps up his attacks on Harris, focusing on personal insults, he continues to ignore advice from Republican allies who have urged him to concentrate on core issues like the economy and immigration. His divisive rhetoric, particularly his comments about Harris’ race and intelligence, has alienated some voters, especially women and swing voters.

In a clear departure from discipline, Trump also resorted to mocking migrants and making ominous claims about their presence in the U.S., calling them "savage" and warning that the country would no longer be recognizable. This inflammatory language mirrors his earlier political tactics, designed to energize his base.

Trump’s persistent focus on the 2020 election, which he falsely claims was rigged, remains a point of concern among his allies. They worry it detracts from his ability to deliver a forward-looking message, especially as democracy experts express concerns that he is laying the groundwork to contest the results of the next election if he does not win.
