Solomon Islands was hit by a very strong earthquake with a magnitude of approximately 7.8 early on Friday following which many shock waves were observed in the South Pacific country. As the communication on these islands is difficult, so currently no major reports of any damage has come into light. All the locals of the Island are moved to a hilly area. “We are quite safe up the hill from the sea,” John Pirimare, a civilian of Nafinua Island, told Reuters by telephone from the hills to where he and up to 600 other villagers had shifted immediately after the quake. The Island observed numerous aftershocks which had an impact of an earthquake. According to US geological center “A quake was recorded with a magnitude of 8.0 but later downgraded to 7.8. The quake struck at 4:38 a.m. local time (1738 GMT Thursday) at a depth of around 40 km (25 miles)."
