Two countries, two leaders, two news: Imran Khan's PTI attacks PM Modi over cow lynching

NEW DELHI: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's party PTI on Saturday targeted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over perceived differences on how the two nation treat their minorities.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) shared a Tweet which compares Pakistan PM Imran Khan with India PM on the basis of treating minorities. In this tweet Pakistan attacks the Modi government over the increasing cases of cow lynching in India, while pointing out that the Imran Khan government had declared Panj Tirath, a Hindu religious site, as a “national treasure.”

This tweet is an attempt to show Kahn’s  ‘secular leanings’ and denouncing PM Modi for the perceived ill-treatment of minorities in India. The image on the tweet reads, "Two countries, two leaders, two days, two news.

The tweet is accompanied with a caption highlighting the difference between the two governments: “Prime Minister Imran Khan believes in humanity and minority rights. Kartarpur corridor is proof of this. While in India minorities are murdered in the name of religion. This is the difference which makes Imran Khan an esteemed leader."

Earlier, on December 29, a 55-year-old was killed by mob over allegations of cattle theft in Araria district of Bihar. Previously as well, Pakistan PM Khan had made a similar comparison between him and PM Modi over alleged treatment of minorities in their respective nation. Notably, his comments were not well received by Indian leaders. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, MP Asaduddin Owaisi, cricketer Mohammad Kaif, as well as Naseeruddin Shah himself, had criticised Imran Khan for his swipe at the Indian government.
