Guwahati: In the morning today, near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border the militants attacked the Assam Rifles vehicle escorting tourists. In an encounter two soldiers lost their life. A defence spokeperson,as per reports said Militants lobbed several grenades targeting the vehicle at Jagun 12th Mile Barabasti on NH-53 bordering Assam's Tinsukia district in the run up to Republic Day, The security forces in return responded and there was heavy exchange of gunfire between the militants and soldiers. The spoke person also said that "The Assam Rifles vehicle and three vehicles of tourists returning from the Pangsau festival have been damaged in grenade explosions.''
