UK customers were alerted of weeks of fresh food scarcity after storm surges in Spain and North Africa

London: Due to worsening weather conditions that have hampered harvests in Spain and North Africa, fresh fruit and vegetable shortages are occurring in UK supermarkets.

The tomato, strawberry, and pepper crops have been impacted, according to the British Retail Consortium, according to a Monday article in the Metro newspaper.

However, according to Andrew Opie, food director for the BRC, "retailers are skilled at managing supply-chain issues and are working with farmers to ensure that customers can access a wide range of fresh produce."

However, a notice posted for customers at a Morrisons supermarket in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, stated that the empty shelves in the fresh food sections are likely to persist for a "couple of weeks."
