Switzerland Geneva:The United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) has strongly condemned the ongoing targeted killings of Kashmiris in Pakistan, expressing deep concern over the escalating violence. In a recent tragic incident, Chaudhry Danish, a resident of Samahni, Bhimber, in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), was fatally shot while working in a factory in Lala Musa, Pakistan.
Sardar Nasir Aziz Khan, the Central Spokesperson for UKPNP, issued a statement highlighting the rising violence and urging the Pakistani authorities to address the safety of Kashmiris within Pakistan and in PoJK. "It is alarming and deeply regrettable that the targeted killing of Kashmiris has become a daily routine in Pakistan. Since 2023, dozens of Kashmiris have lost their lives across various regions of Pakistan, with none of the perpetrators arrested or brought to justice," said Khan.
The statement emphasized the importance of international human rights, referencing the UN Charter and its articles, including Article 1, which calls for the promotion of fundamental human rights, and Article 55, which stresses social progress and human dignity. Pakistan's obligations under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and other international covenants were also highlighted, emphasizing the state's duty to protect its citizens from violence.
UKPNP called on the United Nations and the global community to take immediate action, urging decisive measures to compel Pakistan to protect the lives of Kashmiris, end the cycle of violence, and restore the rule of law. The party also demanded that those responsible for the heinous crimes be arrested and held accountable, while also ensuring that the victims' families receive fair compensation.
Kashmiris face increasing threats, not only in Pakistan's provinces but also within PoJK. Human rights violations in the region are a significant concern, as political repression, arbitrary detentions of activists, and restrictions on freedom of expression are widespread. The area's heavy militarization has led to allegations of excessive force by security personnel, resulting in civilian casualties, unlawful killings, and injuries. Restrictions on movement during unrest further isolate communities and disrupt daily life.
