Ukraine records over 200 Russian attacks on healthcare, must be probed: WHO

KIEV: Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recorded 226 attacks on Ukrainian healthcare, an average of nearly three attacks each day.

Russia's attacks on health-care facilities and ambulances in Ukraine have killed at least 75 people and injured 49 more, according to Hans Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe. Furthermore, the attacks have seriously harmed Ukraine's medical infrastructure and harmed access to health care in many locations.

On his third visit to the war-torn country this year, Kluge said in a statement that "two-thirds of all attacks on health care this year verified by WHO globally were in Ukraine." "These acts are inexcusable, never acceptable, and must be investigated. It is an insult to all health workers' passion and honesty that they continue to operate with impunity. No health care provider should be forced to offer care on a knife's edge "he added.

On the 83rd day of Russia's invasion, which has resulted in thousands of civilian deaths and injuries in Ukraine, including children, Kluge said the WHO would help to any future probe.
