EU visitors to UK will need US-style electronic visas under Tory proposals

On an important matter, the ruling Conservative Party has said that the people of the European Union (EU) must first get electronic approval to come to Britain after Brexit. Currently, citizens of European countries only need an identity card to enter the UK. Under the rules proposed by the Conservative Party, now European visitors will not only have to take a passport before travelling but they will also have to fill an online form.

In his statement, UK Home Minister Preeti Patel said here on Sunday, when people voted for Brexit in 2016, they also voted to take back control of the borders. After Brexit we will introduce a numerical based immigration system under the Australian style and take steps to strengthen UK security. An electronic travel authorization (ETA) system will be introduced for anyone coming without a visa. In this system, visitors will be able to fill their details online. Under the proposed rules, visitors will have to provide biometric data along with their criminal history.

For your information, let us tell you that if these new rules apply then European ID-cards will not be valid for entry into the UK. The announcement of the Conservative Party comes after the statement by Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the opposition Labor Party, that he said that it would not be possible to ban the entry of Europeans completely because there are family ties between the people of Britain and Europe.
