Lucknow: In a Muslim-majority village in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, a case has emerged involving threats against a Dalit family, pressuring them to either migrate or settle a legal case. The incident, which has garnered significant attention, revolves around allegations of harassment and intimidation aimed at the Valmiki family. On June 11, 2024, Munni Devi, wife of Ashok Valmiki from the village of Naharoli, filed a complaint with the police. She reported that Hasnain, Rizwan, Zeeshan, Chidiya (son of Tauheed), and Ikram had assaulted her daughter Kajal. During the attack, the accused also threatened Kajal with death and attempted to force her out of the village, claiming it was part of a conspiracy to seize their home. Munni Devi also accused Ikram of routinely abusing her in public. The police registered a case on June 13, 2024, under various IPC sections (147, 148, 323, 504, and 506) and the SC/ST Act. An FIR was filed naming Hasnain, Rizwan, Chidiya, Zeeshan, and Ikram. Despite this, the accused allegedly pressured the Valmiki family to withdraw the complaint. On July 25, 2024, Hasnain and his associates reportedly entered the Valmiki household once more, threatening them with death if they did not withdraw the case or leave the village. Faced with persistent threats, Munni Devi and Ashok Valmiki decided to leave their home. They posted a “House for Sale” notice in front of their house as a sign of their intent to migrate. Upon learning of the situation, the police intervened. The Deputy SP of the area, Alok Sidhu, visited the village, spoke with the family, and assured them of full protection. Consequently, Ashok Valmiki removed the migration poster from his property. An FIR has now been lodged for the threats issued by Hasnain and his associates. The police are actively searching for the accused, who are currently on the run.
