Gangrape in name of Nikah Halala: Case filed against 8 including husband in UP

RAMPUR: A woman who belongs from the Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh has become victim of gang-rape by four persons, including her husband, in the name of 'Nikah Halala' as ANI reported.

According to the reports, the woman alleged that she was accorded triple talaq by her husband after which she was married off to someone else for three months.

The instant divorce victim further claimed that the man with whom she was married for three months afterward got wedded to another woman.

The Rampur Police have lodged a lawsuit against nine people in this regard.

This fresh incident of gang-rape in the alleged reason of 'Nikah Halala’ underlines the dilemma of Muslim women who are being victims to such cruelty after getting an instant divorce from their husbands as per the Sharia law.

A number of Muslim women's rights organizations have come out to back of the PM Narendra Modi –led government's new legislation banning triple talaq with terms for jail up to three years to those who give instant divorce to their wives.

Worth mention here the Supreme Court had earlier this month agreed to mull over the listing of a batch of petitions challenging the practices of polygamy and 'nikah halala' in Muslim community.
