US Appeals to file sanction of compensation amount against Twitter

New Delhi:- The US special counsel investigating Donald Trump wanted to look at his Twitter account, so they got legal permission to do so in January. However, the company that owns Twitter took a while before giving them access, as stated by a US appeals court opinion on Wednesday.

The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit agreed with the federal trial judge's ruling to punish Twitter, now called X, for disobeying the court's orders. They were fined $350,000 (almost Rs. [currency]) The number is 3 crore (30 million).

The court ruling stated that Twitter had expressed concerns about the First Amendment regarding a nondisclosure order. Twitter wanted to inform Trump about the order.

The ruling said that given the situation, the court did nothing wrong when it found Twitter guilty and punished them with a $350,000 fine.

Trump, on his social media site Truth Social, claimed that the Justice Department secretly targeted his Twitter account without informing him, which he sees as a violation of his civil rights.

Prosecutors often request judges not to inform people who are being subpoenaed in criminal investigations to safeguard their inquiries. This practice was mentioned in the ruling by the appeals court on Wednesday.

A person who speaks for Smith didn't say anything and a person who speaks for X hasn't responded yet to a request for comment.

On Wednesday, it was not made clear in the opinion which judge held Twitter in contempt.

Although Trump's tweets can be seen by the public, the company also has private information about accounts, such as direct messages, unfinished tweets, location data, and the type of device used to send tweets.

The statement mentioned that the warrant was connected to Smith's inquiry into the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by Trump's supporters when he was president.

Last week, Donald Trump, a member of the Republican party, said he was not guilty of the crime he was accused of. The crime was trying to change the result of the election he lost to Joe Biden, who is part of the Democrat party, in November 2020.

Trump is currently leading in the race to become the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election.

Donald Trump, who used to be the President of the United States, was being examined by the US Appeals because of a message he posted. The US Appeals issued an official document ordering Twitter (now known as X) to do something, but Twitter did not respond or follow the orders.
