US Senate to vote on Joe Biden's social spending bill early next year

WASHINGTON: The Senate will vote on President Joe Biden's approx USD 2 trillion social spending and climate bill, known as the Build Back Better Act, early next year, according to a top Democrat.

"Nearly all of us were disappointed by the decision to postpone floor consideration of the Build Back Better Act because Senator (Joe) Manchin and the President could not reach an agreement," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wrote to Democratic colleagues on Monday. "However, neither this delay nor other recent pronouncements will deter us from continuing to seek a solution. We can't just give up, can we? "He stated.

The Senate will take up the Build Back Better Act "very early in the new year," according to Schumer, so that "every Member of this body has the opportunity to make their position known on the Senate floor, not just on television." "We're going to vote on a revised version of the House-passed Build Back Better Act - and we're going to vote on it until we get something done," he said.

For months, progressive and moderate Democrats have publicly disagreed on the size and scope of the social spending package, despite the fact that House Democrats were able to pass their version of the bill last month. The bill's passage in the Senate will necessitate unanimous Democratic support.
