Uttar Pradesh Congress Chief Demands Industrial Development for Varanasi

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai demanded significant industrial development for Varanasi from Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit to the area, criticizing him for allegedly favoring Gujarat over other states.

Rai emphasized the urgent need for factories in Varanasi, urging the Prime Minister to make announcements to create employment opportunities for the youth. He expressed discontent, stating that resources seemed to be disproportionately allocated to Gujarat.

With Prime Minister Modi scheduled to visit Varanasi on June 18, marking his first visit to his parliamentary constituency after assuming office for the third consecutive time, Rai highlighted the upcoming Kisan Sammelan where Modi will address farmers.

During his 4.5-hour stay in Varanasi, Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur around 4:30 pm. He plans to honor local farmers and release the 17th installment of the Samman Nidhi, benefiting approximately 267,665 farmers in the region.

Following the Kisan Sammelan, Modi will visit the Baba Kashi Vishwanath Temple and participate in the renowned Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat.

Rai criticized PM Modi for directing infrastructure development primarily towards Gujarat and called for a fair distribution of industrial projects. He demanded that some major factories relocated from Maharashtra to Gujarat be shifted to Varanasi to generate employment opportunities for the local youth.

Furthermore, Rai mocked the reduced victory margin of PM Modi in the recent elections, highlighting a decrease from 5 lakh to 1.5 lakh votes. He accused Modi of neglecting the needs of Varanasi residents and urged him to refrain from favoring Gujarat.

In the recent elections, PM Modi secured victory in Varanasi with a margin of 1,52,513 votes, defeating Congress candidate Ajay Rai.
