Railway Minister Piyush Goyal meets Uttarakhand CM, appeals to introduce facilities in these special trains

Dehradun: Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat arrived in Delhi on Monday to meet Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. CM Rawat urged the Railway Minister to approve the Tanakpur-Bageshwar railway line in the current financial year 2019-20. At the same time, CM Rawat appealed to Delhi and Haldwani to introduce a special train and a century or a month in the morning from Dehradun to Kathgodam.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Railways also requested the Government of India to finance the remaining works of the Roorkee-Devband project. During his talks with Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, CM Rawat said that the cost of the Roorkee-Devband project was rescheduled by the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, at Rs 791.39 crore in 2018. At the same time, the share of the cost of the railway project was agreed between the Ministry of Railways and Uttarakhand in a contribution of 50:50.

The total length of the Roorkee-Devband project is 27.45 km. It covers an area of 94 hectares in UP and about 70 hectares in Uttarakhand. At present, it takes a long journey to reach Roorkee (Haridwar) from Deoband (Saharanpur) by rail. The construction of the Roorkee-Devband railway line will save commuters time and ease traffic.
