Vehicle registration falls by 9.66% in Jan 2021

New Delhi: The vehicle registrations in January 2021 once again fell by 9.66%.

Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Tuesday released the latest data. According to the data, non-availability of vehicles due to scarcity of semiconductors, a fading pent-up demand and recent price hikes coupled with no festivities and auspicious days landed January registrations in the red.

All categories except Tractor were in the red. Passenger Vehicle (PV) registrations saw a fall of 4.46% to 2,81,666 units in January 2021 as against 2,94,817 units in the same month last year. New launches and SUVs continued to see high traction and helped in restricting the overall PV registrations fall by a big differnce.

As well as two wheelers are concerned,  their registration fell by 8.78% in the outgoing month to 11,63,322 units from 12,75,308 units in January 2020. While dealer inventory for PV continued to fall and came down in the range of 10-15 days, two-wheeler inventory stayed put at 30-35 days, noted FADA. The three-wheeler segment slumped by 51.31% in the month of January. Registrations in the commercial vehicle segment declined by 25% to 55,835 units in January 2021 from 74,439 units in January 2020. Tractor continued its upbeat momentum with a growth of 11.14% at 60,754 units.
