New Delhi: The Delhi AAP Government has included Velankanni Church, one of the most revered pilgrimages for Catholics in the country, in Tamil Nadu to the list of pilgrimage sites under its free pilgrimage scheme for senior citizens, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced today. "Many of our Christian brothers had pointed out that the proposal did not include any of their pilgrimage destinations. Velankanni Church will soon be added to the Mukhyamantri Tirtha Yatra Yojana (Chief Minister's Pilgrimage Scheme)," Kejriwal stated during a virtual press conference on Wednesday. On October 27, the Chief Minister added Ayodhya to a scheme that provides free travel by air-conditioned trains and lodging in decent, air-conditioned hotels to the elderly. "On December 3, the first train to Ayodhya will depart." Registration is now open for the same. "One young person can accompany an elderly person," he added, adding that if one train is fully booked, "we will start another train quickly. So far, over 36,000 people have benefited from the programme”. In addition to Jagannath Puri, Ujjain, Shirdi, Amritsar, Jammu, Dwarka, Mathura, Tirupati, Rameshwaram, Haridwar, and Bodh Gaya, Ayodhya has been added to the Mukhyamantri Tirth Kalyan Yojna list. We will also provide free assistance to individuals who wish to visit Ram Lalla in Ayodhya.
