Vijay Makkal Iyakkam builds water tank for monkeys in Pudukkottai

Times are tough during the lockdown, not just for us humans, but also animals, who depend on us for food and water. Several individuals and organisations have been doing their bit to ensure animals and birds don’t suffer in the pandemic, especially in the summer. Joining the list is Pudukkottai Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, which has built a water tank, especially for monkeys.

A source says, “There are over 300 monkeys that keep loitering in and around the Hanuman Temple, near Pudukkottai medical college. They struggle to get water to drink and fruits and food to eat now because of the pandemic-induced lockdown. The place is surrounded by forest and the harsh summer isn’t helping them either. So, in a bid to provide them with a permanent solution, Pudukkottai’s Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has built a new water tank. Water will be filled in the tank on a regular basis so that monkeys don’t go thirsty.”

The source adds, “They have also made arrangements to supply them with bananas and other fruits. A special pooja for Lord Hanuman was done on the day of the inauguration of the water tank. The event was attended by members of the Makkal Iyakkam, who followed all pandemic protocols.”
