In a surprising incident, a Goa-based man has defrauded a hotel in the city. The accused stayed at the hotel accompanied by bodyguards and impersonated as a VIP (very important person). The accused has been recognized as Swapnil Naik When it was time to check out and pay the bill, the accused fled from the hotel. Naik is said to have duped his bodyguards too, according to media report. According to police, Naik arrived at Zion Hotel in Gandhinagar on January 2 and booked a room. Six days later, i.e. on January 8, Naik's wife also joined him and booked two more rooms for the bodyguards. A day later, they hired a minibus and went for a tour towards Ramanagara. Little did hotel staff know that the man and his wife fled without paying the dues. The hotel staffer, in his complaint, said Swapnil and his family did not clear the bill of Rs 1,43,243 towards room rent and food and had fled. Upparpet police have registered a case. Police said they have collected information about Naik’s movement and have launched a manhunt to nab him.
