Voting Begins for Chhattisgarh Urban Elections

RAIPUR (CHHATTISGARH): Voting for urban body elections in Chhattisgarh started on Tuesday morning.

People are voting for 10 municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils, and 114 Nagar Panchayats across the state. The polling began at 8 AM and will continue until 5 PM. The votes will be counted on February 15.

There are a total of 44.74 lakh registered voters, including 22.52 lakh men and 22.73 lakh women. The Election Commission has set up 597 polling stations for the elections.

In January, the Chhattisgarh Election Commission announced that urban body elections would be held on February 11, with results declared on February 15. Panchayat elections will be held in three phases on February 17, 20, and 23, and results will be announced on February 18, 21, and 24.

On February 6, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended a BJP rally in Korba as part of the party’s campaign for the 2025 elections. He also participated in a roadshow in Raigarh, urging people to support BJP for continued development.

"I am thankful for your support. Trust us for development, and we will deliver. We already have a double-engine government, now we need a triple-engine government," Sai said, referring to BJP's leadership at the central and state levels.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao also expressed confidence in BJP’s victory. "BJP is fully prepared for the elections. We will hold worker meetings in all urban areas. The lotus will bloom, and BJP will win," he said.

Sao also criticized Congress, saying the party is struggling to find candidates. "Congress is already facing internal chaos. Their leaders are being protested against, and they have lost confidence even before the elections," he added.
