VVS Laxman Poised to Take Charge: India's Next Cricket Coach?

New Delhi: Rahul Dravid, who served as the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team, is reportedly opting not to extend his coaching contract, which reached its conclusion with the culmination of the ODI World Cup 2023. According to insiders familiar with the situation, Dravid appears disinterested in a contract renewal and is purportedly engaged in discussions to assume the role of mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

Speculation suggests that should Dravid decide against continuing his tenure with the national team, there is a possibility of him taking up the mentoring position at LSG. VVS Laxman, the current head of the National Cricket Academy, is emerging as the leading candidate to succeed Dravid in the coaching role. Laxman is presently overseeing coaching responsibilities for the Indian team in Dravid's absence and could transition into the full-time coaching position after the conclusion of the India vs Australia T20I series.

Sources intimate that a meeting is in the pipeline to discuss and deliberate on the future coaching arrangements and the broader direction of the Indian cricket team. The meeting is expected to convene all relevant stakeholders to chart the course for the team's coaching staff and strategies moving forward.
