Welcome to Supreme Court's decision on idol immersion: Ganesh Utsav Committee

Hyderabad: Speaking to the media on Thursday, the committee's chief secretary Bhagwant Rao welcomed the Supreme Court's decision on Ganesh idol immersion and said that the committee along with the state government would move the high court next year. He said, “We will be able to immerse the Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar and conduct the POP test after construction and submit it to the High Court. There is a hesitation on the construction process as the government has not submitted a detailed report to the High Court.” " Bhagwant Rao told that Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Committee has decided to conduct Ganesh Nimarjan on 19th September.

The Supreme Court had allowed GHMC to immerse POP Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar. However, permission was given only for this year. The Supreme Court on Thursday gave a green signal to the immersion of POP Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar. The top court further said that the permission has been given only for this year. A bench of Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana heard a petition filed by the GHMC commissioner after the Telangana High Court refused to allow the immersion of POP idols in Hussain Sagar.

Hearing the arguments of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and petitioner Venu Madhav, appearing for the state government, the Supreme Court allowed the immersion of idols in Hussain Sagar only for this year and directed the government to submit an affidavit that in future No polluting program like idol immersion should be done.
