West Bank clashes leave 159 Palestinians injured

According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, arount 159 Palestinian rioters were injured amid skirmishes with Israeli forces in the northern West Bank (PRCS). The medical teams treated 79 Palestinians injured in the villages of Beita and Beit Dajan, situated south and east of Nablus, respectively, according to a press release from the PRCS.

Among the 79 injured Palestinians were two young males who were hit with live bullets and taken by ambulance to the major hospital in Nablus, according to the report. In addition, nine other people were slightly injured by rubber-coated metal bullets fired by Israeli forces, including a female journalist who was hit in the face, while 68 people died from asphyxia after inhaling tear gas sprayed by the soldiers.

Since May 2021, Beita village has seen virtually daily clashes with Israeli forces in opposition to the establishment of a settlement outpost on land owned by the community's people. Weekly protests have been organised by Palestinian activists in Beit Dajan village against Israeli land expropriation and settlement development in the West Bank. According to the PRCS, Israeli forces shot and injured at least three Palestinians near the city of Qalqilya during protests in a hamlet east of the city.

In a statement, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry criticised the Israeli army and settlers for their attacks on Palestinians and their houses throughout the West Bank, stressing that "these assaults would hinder any chance for resuming the peace process."
