West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee ready to talk to Doctors, will end the strike?

Kolkata: The situation in West Bengal was set to ease the tension on Saturday night when doctors who were on strike said they were ready to talk to CM Mamata Banerjee to call off the strike but they would decide the venue for the meeting later. Earlier in the evening, he had rejected the proposal for a meeting with Banerjee at the state secretariat and instead asked him to come to the NRS Medical College Hospital for an open discussion to end the impasse.

The Joint Forum of Junior Doctors convened a press conference late Saturday night. A spokesman for the forum said: "We are always ready for talks. If CM Mamata extends one hand, we will increase our 10 hands. We are eagerly awaiting the end of this stalemate. The striking doctors said they would wait for their organization's decision on the proposed location for the meeting.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee, who is all round about the doctors' strike, has taken a soft stance and urged the doctors to return to work. "The government has accepted all the demands of the doctors," he said at a press conference on Saturday. If there is any demand, that will be taken into consideration. If doctors do not want to talk to them, they can talk to the Governor or the Chief Secretary. The Government wants a peaceful solution.
