Bengal elections: Another BJP worker killed, body found hanging on tree

Kolkata: The body of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was found hanging on a tree in Alinagar village of Jamuria in Vardhaman district on Friday ahead of the 7th phase of polling in West Bengal. The worker has been identified as Kiranjan Ghosh. Jamuria will go to the polls on April 26. The family members of the deceased said Ghosh did not return home on Thursday (April 22, 2021) and his body was found hanging from a tree in a forested area near the house on Friday.

Locals immediately informed the police about the incident. Deputy commissioner Abhishek Gupta later reached the spot and conducted an inquiry. Police and security forces of Pandabeshwar police station have been deployed in the area. Meanwhile, the BJP has alleged that it is a planned murder and hanged on a tree after killing its worker. Bjp candidate from Jamuria Assembly Tapas Roy has demanded completion of the probe in the case within 24 hours.

At the same time, the accused have also been asked to be punished. The family of the deceased is yet to lodge a complaint in this regard. But the political atmosphere in Bengal has taken a toll on the issue. Earlier, the body of a BJP worker was found in Roavari village of Nadia district on April 18. The deceased, identified as Dilip Kartania, was an active BJP worker in the area. He was working for the party at the booth level. His body was recovered from the bushes behind his house. Eyewitnesses had reported that Dilip Kirtania was bleeding from his nose, ears, and mouth. In view of his condition, he was rushed to Chakdaha State General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
