Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Swapan Majhi was shot dead in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district this morning. Along with him, two others were shot, resulting in his death on the spot. The triple murder took place this morning when the TMC leader had left home with his two accomplices on a bike. During this time, some people stopped the bike and fired indiscriminately and fled. The TMC leader and his two associates were killed on the spot due to bullet injuries. At present, a large number of police personnel have been deployed in the area. Cartridge boxes and bombs were reportedly recovered from the spot. Swapan Majhi is a TMC leader and was also a member of the local panchayat. On the issue, TMC MLA Paresh Ram Das has said that the killers first shot three people, including the TMC leader, and then tried to cut off their heads. A senior police officer said, "Three people have been killed, investigation is on. The deceased have been identified as Swapan Majhi, Jhantu Haldar and Bhootnath Pramanik.'' The incident took place around 9 am today when the trio was on their way to the TMC's local office. In fact, on July 21, the TMC is scheduled to hold a rally in South 24 Parganas.
