WhatsApp Launches New Channel Categories for Easy Content Discovery

WhatsApp has introduced an exciting new feature that makes it easier for users to discover and follow channels based on their interests. This update allows users to browse channels across seven categories: People, Organizations, Lifestyle, Sports, Entertainment, Businesses, and News & Information. The new "Explore" option can be found in the "Updates" tab, providing a simple way to navigate the variety of channels available.

Currently, more than 500 million people globally engage with WhatsApp Channels each month. In India, popular channels include Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Katrina Kaif, the Indian Cricket Team, as well as celebrities like Diljit Dosanjh and Vijay Deverakonda. Recently, actor Ayushmann Khurrana has also joined the list of public figures utilizing WhatsApp Channels.

In addition to this new feature, WhatsApp is enhancing its AI capabilities. The app will soon introduce a two-way voice chat function powered by Meta AI. This feature will allow users to interact with a chatbot using various voices, including those of celebrities, providing a more personalized experience.

According to WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp updates, this AI voice chat feature will offer a selection of voices that vary in pitch, tonality, and accent. Although it is not yet available for beta testers on Android, the initial offering is expected to include voices with UK and US accents, along with those of public figures.

This development follows Meta's previous efforts to integrate AI-driven personalities into its messaging services. Last year, Meta launched custom AI chatbots on Messenger that mirrored the personas of various influencers and celebrities. The new voice feature for WhatsApp represents a natural progression in these efforts, aiming to enhance user interaction through AI-powered conversations.
