When Will PM Modi Visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari district on May 30 for a spiritual retreat, according to a senior BJP leader. The visit, unrelated to any party event, will see the PM engage in meditation during his stay.

Modi is likely to arrive at the picturesque Vivekananda Rock Memorial, situated near the monolithic statue of Tamil saint Tiruvalluvar in the sea off the coast of Kanyakumari, on Thursday evening. He is expected to depart for Delhi on June 1.

"The Prime Minister's visit is not associated with any party-related event. We will receive information about his schedule one day in advance," the senior BJP leader stated.

During his stay at the memorial, Modi plans to undertake meditation sessions.

Something Special About Vivekananda Rock Memorial Spiritual Retreat Centre

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial, located in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, is a prominent pilgrimage and tourist destination. It stands on a small rocky island that is about 500 meters off the southernmost tip of the Indian peninsula, where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean meet. The memorial is dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, the renowned spiritual leader and philosopher who meditated on this rock in 1892 before his historic address at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago.

The memorial was built in 1970 in honor of Swami Vivekananda's visit to Kanyakumari, marking the spot where he is said to have attained enlightenment. It consists of two main structures—the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam. The Vivekananda Mandapam is the main hall where visitors can see the statue of Vivekananda and the meditation hall, which provides a tranquil environment for meditation and reflection. The Shripada Mandapam enshrines a foot imprint of the goddess Devi, believed to be a symbol of her visit to the rock.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is not only a place of spiritual significance but also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding seas and the distant horizon. It attracts tourists, pilgrims, and spiritual seekers alike, who come to pay homage to Swami Vivekananda and experience the peaceful ambiance of this sacred site.

Visitors to the memorial can reach the rock by a ferry service from the mainland, and the journey itself is an experience, offering panoramic views of the coastline and the confluence of the seas.
