With Dixon in India, Xiaomi aims to manufacture locally and for export

Xiaomi intends to continue working with Dixon to produce mobile devices for export. Both businesses intend to make investments in India's component manufacturing industry. On May 30, representatives from Xiaomi and Dixon discussed the potential project with Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Information TEchnology.

"Xiaomi, which has developed a strong brand equity over the years in India, is renowned for its high quality and efficiency and is considered to be a significant force in the market for smart mobile phones there. People all over the world have a strong belief in their products. Atul B. Lall, Vice Chairman & MD, Dixon Technologies (India), stated, "We are thrilled and encouraged by the trust they have reposed in Dixon for the planned association.

Now that the majority of international mobile phone manufacturers and their supply chain partners have made manufacturing investments, Lall continued, the Indian EMS industry is in a strong position to realise its full potential in the years to come. To assemble smartphones and TVs in India, Xiaomi has partnered with contract manufacturers like Dixon and Foxconn.

The Noida-based Optiemus Electronics and the Chinese smartphone manufacturer signed a manufacturing agreement on May 29 to produce the latter's audio devices and further localise its AIoT offerings.

Enforcement agents have been keeping an eye on Xiaomi since last year because of possible financial irregularities in India. Along with other Chinese smartphone businesses operating in this country, Xiaomi's reputation was further damaged by the geopolitical incidents between China and India.

Xiaomi, once the industry leader in smartphone brands, fell to third place in Q1 2023.
