Women's Hockey WC 2018: Indian eves to clash against Ireland

 

London [UK], Jul 26 (NT): The Indian women's hockey team will aim to settle their first win in the ongoing World Cup 2018 when they cross the swords with Ireland in their second Pool B match of the high-status tournament here on Thursday.

In the four-team Pool B, India are at present placed at the third spot after having a 1-1 draw against hosts England in their opening match on Saturday.

A win for India will help them rush to the top spot in the group table while also let some light in their chances of fixing a place in the playoffs, ahead of the final group fight against the United States on Sunday.

Meanwhile, if Ireland manage to seal a triumph against India, then they will book their spot in the knockout stages today itself.

Ireland side is at present standing at the top spot after marking a convincing 3-1 win over the United States in their earlier game.

So far England and the US have played two games each.

England side is at present ranked second after playing out two draws, while the US is getting weaker at the bottom with a draw and a beat in hand. (NT)
