Women in Jammu Kashmir Tie Rakhi to Soldiers at LoC, Celebrate Raksha Bandhan in Uri

Women in the Soni Village of the Uri sector, Jammu and Kashmir, celebrated Raksha Bandhan by tying Rakhi to the brave Indian army personnel stationed along the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday. This symbolic gesture conveyed the bond of love and respect between the local women and the soldiers who protect them.

The women, treating the soldiers as their brothers, expressed their gratitude for the protection provided by the armed forces. In return, the soldiers pledged to safeguard the residents from any harm, deepening the spirit of Raksha Bandhan.

Seerat Bano, a local woman participating in the celebration, shared, "We sisters tied Rakhi to our brothers who protect us across the borders. It’s our way of thanking them for their dedication."

Raksha Bandhan is a traditional Hindu festival celebrating the love and bond between brothers and sisters. On this special day, sisters tie Rakhi, a sacred thread, around their brothers' wrists, symbolizing protection. In return, brothers give gifts to their sisters as a gesture of love and care.

Nazir Ahmad, another villager, emphasized the festival's broader message, "Raksha Bandhan stands for peace and brotherhood. Living on the border, we support our Indian army who tirelessly protect us. This festival reflects that sense of unity and brotherhood."

Earlier, on August 17, schoolgirls near the Akhnoor border in Jammu and Kashmir also celebrated Raksha Bandhan by tying Rakhi to army personnel. The young girls, full of enthusiasm, applied Tilak on the soldiers' foreheads and offered them sweets, expressing their gratitude and respect.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his best wishes to the nation on this auspicious occasion. He tweeted, "Best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a festival symbolizing the immense love between brother and sister. May this holy festival bring new sweetness in your relationships, along with happiness, prosperity, and good fortune."

Raksha Bandhan carries a profound message of protection and love. Brothers promise to protect their sisters from all harm, reinforcing the values of care and responsibility.

Rooted deeply in Indian culture, Raksha Bandhan has been celebrated for centuries. Hindu religious texts also mention instances of sisters tying Rakhi to their brothers for protection, making it an enduring tradition of love and security.
