New Delhi: India's debut in the World Athletics Championships faded significantly. Long jump athlete M Srishankar failed to make it to the finals. He did not perform well and finished 22nd in the qualification round. The twenty-year-old athlete had a best jump of 7.62 meters in three attempts in the qualification B which is far below his season's best of 8.00 meters. He performed this in Patiala last month. Srishankar also has a national record of 8.20 meters in his name but he did not meet the expectations in the World Championship. He started at 7.52 meters and was also successful at 7.62 meters. He was fouled in his third attempt. Any athlete would automatically make it to the finals after jumping 8.15 meters, but only one athlete achieved this criteria. After this, the remaining 11 best performing athletes reached the finals.
