World Blood Donor Day: Learn why donating blood is so important

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14 every year WHO has declared this day as Blood Donation Day. Established in 2004, the programme aims to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and express gratitude for promoting donors to donate safe life saving blood. On the occasion of World Blood Donation Day, today we are going to tell you some interesting facts related to blood donation. So let's know-

Why we celebrate World Blood Donor Day: Nobel Price winner Carl Landsteiner was born on this day i.e. June 14. These were the scientists who completed the discovery of the ABO blood group system. World Blood Donation Day is celebrated on the birthday of Carl Landsteiner who detects blood groups. Blood transfusion was known without a group until Carl Landsteiner detected blood groups. It is for this discovery that Carl Landstone has also been awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.

Interesting things about blood donation:

– Only one unit of blood is taken from the donor's body while donating blood.

– A normal person must have 10 units of blood i.e. 5 to 6 litres of blood in his body.

– The 'O negative' blood group is called universal donor, it can be given to a person from any blood group.

- In times of emergency, when a newborn child or others need blood and does not know his blood group, he can be given 'O negative' blood.

– A person can donate blood from the age of 18 to 60 years.

– ред Men can donate regular blood at intervals of 3 months and women in 4 months.

– If you ever have dizziness, sweating, weight loss or any other kind of discomfort after donating blood, you should not donate blood.

– Only 7 per cent of people in India have a 'O negative' blood group.
