World Contraception Day: 4 crores 60 lakh abortions take place every year

World Contraception Day is observed all over the world on 26th September every year with the aim of attracting people's attention to the rapidly growing world population. On this occasion, an NGO Development Communications (DEVCOMS) disclosed that Nigeria has about 4 crores 60 lakh abortions every year.

Meanwhile, the NGO explained that unplanned pregnancy has a profound impact on the lives of both partners. It is very important to use contraceptive as protection while having sex. "Sex is a satisfying experience of life that has fun and joy, but without any protection, there is also a crisis of sexually transmitted disease and unplanned pregnancy," the NGO said.

According to the National Demographic Health Survey 2013, the prevalence of contraceptive use in Nigeria is only 15%. According to the survey, awareness about the kind of contraceptive methods among women, men and youth of Nigeria is being spread, even after which the percentage of contraceptive use is very low, which causes a large number of abortions every year, especially in teenage girls.
