World Cup: In India celebrates Team India's defeat, chanted anti-national slogans

Srinagar: In the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Team India were celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir after their defeat at the hands of New Zealand. In the Kashmir valley, several people (mostly youth) came to the streets in several areas of Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, including Srinagar, burst firecrackers and shouted slogans against India. Shortly after, videos and photos of the incident went viral on social media. Many watched this video on Twitter handles.

According to information, some people were seen celebrating India's defeat in Pulwama Chowk, several areas in southern Kashmir, including Nauhata, Razia Kadal, Nawa Kadal, Saura and Rambahag in Srinagar. There were also slogans of anti-India and Kashmir's freedom. Several separatists also uploaded a video of India's defeat on Twitter. In many places, there was a clash between the people and the security forces when they tried to drive them out and they hurled stones at the security forces.

In retaliation, security forces fired tear gas shells. Police have also registered a case of automatic cognizance of the incident and have taken out CCTV footage to identify those involved in the uproar. New Zealand beat India by 18 runs in the semi-finals of the World Cup on Wednesday, with Team India's World Cup campaign coming to an end.
