As we know August 19 is marked as World Photography Day. Around 15 years ago, cameras were used just for family photographs on vacation, and other special occasions. Photography wasn't actually seen as a profession back then. It was unusual and best utilized as a hobby. Today, every other person is seen with a DSLR in hand and mobile phones with super megapixels cameras have also turned many into beginner photographers. Young or old, people are now accustomed to instantaneously capturing the frames of their lives. Photography has become so popular today that many online photography schools have sprung up, teaching the basics to anyone, free-of-cost. The origin of World Photography Day can be traced back to 1837 in France. Two Frenchmen named Joseph Nicephore Niepce and Louis Daguerre developed the first-ever photographic process by inventing the 'daguerreotype'. After two years, the French Academy of Sciences acknowledged the invention and officially announced the daguerreotype, calling it ‘a gift to the world’. “Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” — Anonymous “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” — Anonymous “We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us.” — Anonymous "The way that light hits objects in life, three-dimensional objects before you photograph them is really the story of photography." – Anonymous Here is one of the best photos of the year After the announcement was made, the French government bought the patent for the invention and provided it as a gift to the world without any copyright. Since then, photography has witnessed several changes including the introduction of colour photography in 1861. In 2020, the World Photography Day theme was 'Pandemic Lockdown through the lens'. In 2019, the World Photography Day theme was 'Dedicated to History'. 'Be Nice' and 'Understanding Clouds' were the themes of World Photography Day in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
