World toilet day: More people in the world have access to a mobile phone than a toilet

 

World Toilet Day marks an official United Nations international observance day on 19 November to inspire action to deal with the global sanitation crisis. Worldwide, 4.5 billion people live without "safely managed sanitation" and around 892 million people practice open defecation. 2.3 billion people "still do not have basic sanitation facilities such as toilets or latrines," according to the World Health Organization.

In an era of technological miracles, we can and must meet people’s basic needs. More than half the worldwide population lacks proper toilets and sanitation. This is time to educate people that Clean, hygienic facilities are essential to people’s dignity, and to public health.

PM Modi tweeted and said In India Toilet construction has gathered speed, “Today, on World Toilet Day, we reiterate our commitment towards enhancing cleanliness and sanitation facilities across the nation. We in India take pride at the remarkable speed with which sanitation cover has increased in the last four years”.

Sudarsan Pattnaik the International Sand Artist & Padma Shri Awardee made a Toilet seat and tweeted

“#WorldToiletDay My SandArt with message "Swachh Bharat Mission” at puri beach in Odisha” .

Vice President Of India Tweeted, “On this World Toilet Day, let us reaffirm our pledge to work together to make India completely open defecation free. Cleanliness is a virtue. Let us inculcate this virtue in and every facet of our life. #WorldToiletDay”.
