World’s Most Powerful Passports in 2025: The Henley Passport Index for 2025 is out, and Singapore has the world’s most powerful passport. It allows visa-free travel to 193 countries.
South Korea and Japan are in second place, with access to 190 countries. Seven European countries, namely: Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, Finland, and Denmark share the third position, with access to 187 destinations.
Where Does India Stand?
India ranks 80th on the list, with visa-free access to 56 countries. It shares this spot with Tajikistan, Algeria, and Equatorial Guinea.
In South Asia, Myanmar is ranked 88th, Sri Lanka 91st, Bangladesh 93rd, Nepal 94th, and Pakistan 96th.
Which Passports Are the Weakest?
The least powerful passports belong to:

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw the biggest improvement, moving from 32nd place in 2015 to 10th place in 2025, with access to 185 countries. China also made progress, rising to 59th place from 94th in 2015.
On the other hand, Venezuela and the United States lost the most ground. The U.S. now ranks 9th with 183 visa-free destinations, a drop from its previous #2 ranking behind Japan.
The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 countries based on visa-free travel access. The data comes from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
How U.S. Passport Drops in Global Ranking
The U.S. passport is no longer among the top five most powerful in the world. It now ranks ninth, a big drop from its usual first or second place a decade ago. Currently, U.S. passport holders can travel to 186 countries without needing a visa in advance.
Out of the 199 passports worldwide, only 22 have fallen in ranking over the past 10 years. The U.S. passport has seen the second-biggest drop, with Venezuela experiencing the worst decline (now ranked 45th). Vanuatu (54th), the UK, and Canada (which fell from fourth to seventh) have also seen declines.
