Rome ranking series: Ravi Kumar defeated Kazakhstan's wrestler 12-2, India win seven medals

After Indian star wrestler Bajrang Punia, Ravi Kumar has also made a great start to the Olympic year by winning a gold medal in the Rome ranking series tournament here. He is participating in 61 kg category instead of his regular 57 freestyle kg. He won the gold medal by winning 12–2 over Kazakhstan Kenurbolat Abduliyev in the final.

23-year-old wrestler from Sonepat made it to the final round after stunning victories over Alexandru Chirtoaka of Moldova and Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan. Earlier, Bajrang made a stunning 4-3 win against Jordan Michael Oliver of the US in the 65kg category final. India thus won 7 medals from the tournament.

Vinesh Phogat and Anshu Malik had won gold and silver medals respectively in their weight categories in the women's event. In the Greco Roman, Gurpreet Singh (82 kg) won the gold, Sunil Kumar (97 kg) won the silver and Sajan Bhanwal (77 kg) won the bronze. In the 86 kg category, Deepak suffered a 1–1 defeat to Ethan Adrian Ramos of Puerto Rico in the opening round. Satyavrat Kadian (97 kg) and Sumit Malik (125 kg) are lagging behind in reaching the medal race.
