BHOPAL: Yoga Practice to Become Compulsory in Madhya Pradesh Schools, Announces CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made a significant announcement, stating that yoga practice will be mandatory in all schools across the state. "I have taken the decision to make yoga practice compulsory in all schools in Madhya Pradesh," emphasized Chouhan. In addition, he urged the people of the state to pledge and incorporate yoga into their daily routines. "Yoga is not confined to any particular religion or caste; it is a subject of harmony. It is practiced in more than 180 countries worldwide," expressed Chouhan while addressing the participants of a yoga event in Jabalpur. Promoting Global Acceptance of Yoga: Vice-President Jagdip Dhankar, who was on a visit to Madhya Pradesh, and Governor Mangubhai Patel, along with several ministers, attended the yoga practice program in Jabalpur. "The countries of the world have widely supported this initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and as a result, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day," stated Dhankar during the event. Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, who also participated in the yoga event, commended the Prime Minister for making yoga an international festival. "I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister for organizing this magnificent yoga event. The primary yoga celebration in the country is taking place here in Jabalpur. The Prime Minister has successfully disseminated the practice of yoga across the world," added Patel. Meanwhile, Congress Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer Vivek Tankha, who hails from Jabalpur, alleged that the city administration had organized the yoga program as a partisan event favoring the BJP. "Yoga practice is the pride of India. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar is the chief guest of the program here. However, the state and city administration turned this auspicious occasion into a BJP party event. They failed to do justice to such an important day and an eminent person of Vice-President's stature," criticized Tankha. With the announcement of yoga practice becoming mandatory in Madhya Pradesh schools, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan aims to promote physical and mental well-being among students. This decision aligns with the global acceptance and recognition of yoga as a harmonious practice that transcends boundaries. However, allegations of political bias have surfaced, suggesting that the city administration organized the yoga program in favor of a particular political party. As the implementation progresses, it remains to be seen how this initiative will positively impact the students and the overall well-being of the Madhya Pradesh community.
